Fantastically dirt cheap smartphones (pictures)

So you want a decent smartphone without forking over your first-born? CNET rounds up the 9 best handsets that aren't only inexpensive (seriously, the priciest device in this list is still less than a dollar), but they work darn well too.

Great phones don't have to cost an arm and a leg. Sure, the handsets that carriers put on sale aren't the newest or most updated devices, but that doesn't mean they aren't built well, make excellent calls, or offer a reliable performance. CNET rounded up some of the best smartphones that are available right now for rock-bottom prices and a carrier contract. And when we say inexpensive, we mean it -- none of the handsets in this list cost more than a dollar.

The LG Nitro, for example, has a gorgeous 4.5-inch HD display, an 8-megapixel camera that can shoot 1080p HD video, and 4G LTE speeds to upload all those recordings in a jiffy. Read the full review here. ($0.01 from AT&T)
