Facebook has reached 1 billion active users, according to CEO Mark Zuckerberg speaking to NBC News' Today show.

The social network, which started in a dorm room in 2004, reached the historic milestone on September 14 at 12:45 p.m. PT, which now puts one-in-seven people in the world on the social network.
According to NBC News, the milestone does not include bots or fake users -- which Facebook "tracks closely" -- but real people with an account who logs into the site every month.
